Read the owner's manual and all warning labels before operating your vehicle. Rider requirements, protective equipment, passenger limits, and permitted riding conditions vary by model. This page provides general reminders and does not replace the manufacturer's instructions.
Choose a Suitable Vehicle
Follow the manufacturer's minimum rider age and load limits. The rider must fit the vehicle, reach all controls, and have the ability to operate it correctly. Adult supervision does not make a vehicle suitable for a rider below the manufacturer's minimum age.
Wear Appropriate Protective Equipment
Wear a properly fitted helmet appropriate for the vehicle and riding activity, eye protection, gloves, long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy footwear. Follow the manufacturer's protective-equipment requirements. Secure long hair and loose clothing away from moving parts.
On vehicles equipped with seat belts or harnesses, use them as instructed for every ride. Carry passengers only in designated passenger positions and only when the vehicle is designed to carry them.
Inspect Before Riding
Complete the pre-operation inspection specified in your model's manual. Check the required controls, brakes, tires, fasteners, and other applicable components. Use the manufacturer's tire-pressure specifications; there is no single pressure suitable for every model.
Do not ride with incomplete assembly, damaged components, leaks, or controls that do not work correctly. Have unresolved mechanical problems inspected by a qualified mechanic before use.
Ride Within the Vehicle's Limits
Use the vehicle only for its intended purpose and on terrain permitted by the manufacturer. Off-road vehicles should not be treated as road vehicles. Check the rules for your riding location before use.
Keep speed appropriate for the rider's ability, visibility, and terrain. Avoid stunts and prohibited maneuvers. Never operate a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or fatigue.
Supervise Young Riders
Provide adult supervision for children and follow the model's rider-training instructions. Make sure each rider understands the controls, stopping procedure, and riding boundaries before operating the vehicle.
Follow Fuel & Battery Precautions
Follow the manufacturer's refueling, charging, and storage instructions. Never run a fuel-powered engine indoors or in an enclosed area. Use only charging equipment specified for the vehicle's battery system.
